Remote Uber and Hybrid Compared - Which is Best For You?

A detailed comparison is HERE, but this page simplifies the differences.

The Remote Uber and Hybrid uses almost exactly the same software. The only physical difference is the Hybrid gets ball and wheel timings using a hidden camera, whereas the Uber gets timings from players clicking hidden buttons (as the wheel and ball complete revolutions).

The Hybrid can be used without a camera too. But the Uber can’t be used with a camera. So the Hybrid is the best of both worlds. But there are both advantages and disadvantages of using the camera or hidden buttons. These are explained below:

Uber Disadvantages

  • Most players prefer using a hidden camera, because then they don’t need to take timings. So it is easier to find team members.
  • Timings are less accurate, so you can’t get predictions as early as the Hybrid. But this difference is usually about only 2 seconds. This means to achieve the same accuracy, the Hybrid may take 3 seconds to get a prediction, while the Uber takes 5 seconds. But to do this, the player needs to be reasonably competent, and/or two players are used to take timings simultaneously (one times the ball, and the other the rotor at the same time).
  • More equipment is needed. The player who take timings needs either a hidden cable (with button usually in shoe), or a wireless remote. This isn’t a serious issue as almost never is a player physically searched. The only time I’ve ever known of a player being searched is when they broke the law. But we never knowingly play where it’s illegal anyway.

Uber Advantages

  • Teams can get started much quicker because there’s much less to learn. The Operator (person at home) doesn’t need to learn anything about wheel and ball detection, and the players don’t need to worry about where to hide the camera. The camera isn’t hard to hide at all, but inexperienced players often waste time messing around with it. When no camera is involved, there’s fewer time-wasting mistakes players make.
  • The Operator (or owner) requires far less time and effort. They can just set the computer to be ready to go, then come back hours later to review results. They should still be available in case of a technical issue, but rarely are they required. This is the biggest advantage of using the Uber.
  • There’s no need for a camera, so setting up in new casinos and with new teams much quicker. Although with experienced players, starting a new session is just as quick and easy.
  • Often even a poor and unreliable internet connection is ok. No video is sent, and the timings are still accurate because of buffering technology.

Hybrid Disadvantages

  • An Operator is not needed to be present, but they should be, to ensure the smooth operation of everything. At the very least, they should watch the live video and make adjustments if needed. This means Hybrid owners and Operators generally spend more time.
  • There’s more to learn for new players, so it takes longer to train new players. New and inexperienced players tend to waste time messing around with camera placement. For example, a piece of poorly secured thick fabric may cover half of the lens, then the players need to leave the table to fix it. In many cases you can see straight through thin fabric without a problem though. And these issues don’t occur with experienced teams. It is just tedious to repeatedly go through the same issues with new players.
  • Sometimes the Internet connection is disrupted. This isn’t a major problem though because you can use a second phone to provide a redundant connection to the server. This means if one Internet connection is disrupted, the other phone’s connection takes over instantly, without any video disruption.

Hybrid Advantages

  • It’s easier to find new team members, because most players prefer timings to be measured automatically.
  • Predictions are more accurate, especially for earlier predictions.
  • The player with the camera can just have a phone, with no other equipment if needed. So nothing suspicious will ever be found, although almost never are players searched anyway (It only ever happened to one of my players. He was playing illegally, although just warned by police, not charged. Still, you should never play illegally.).
